Thompson Test

Orthopedic Test Thompson Test
Method The subject lies prone on a table with the heels placed over the edge of the table. With the calf muscles relaxed, the examiner squeezes the belly of these muscles. When squeezing the calf muscles, a normal response is to have the foot plantar flex. An absence of plantar flexion upon squeezing is a positive finding and suggests a possible rupture of the Achilles' tendon.
