Apley's Distraction Test

Orthopedic Test Apley's Distraction Test
Method The subject lies prone with the test knee flexed to 90 degrees. The examiner uses the distal hand to medially and laterally rotate the tibia while applying a distraction force through the heel. An increase in and/or change in location of pain is more indicative of ligamentous verses meniscal pathology. Pain or clicking with a compression test that is followed by an absence of the same symptoms with a distraction test is more indicative of a meniscal pathology.
