Is there a link between back pain and depression?
A new study found a bidirectional association between back pain and major depression. Example: Major depression is likely associated with back pain, and that back pain is linked to major depression.
The study also found age to be inversely related to major depression with a higher proportion of female participants with major depression and a higher proportion of female participants with back pain.
The findings of this study creates the groundwork for a relationship between doctors of chiropractic and mental health care providers to collaborate with and co-manage patients who suffer from both back pain and depression.
