Corrolaries

The updated digital edition of the Chiropractic Insurance Coding Manual now contains the original “HJ Ross Diagnostic Corollaries.” This signature guide intends to assist the provider in assessing the options for the most appropriate diagnosis and avoid the use of simple or incomplete diagnoses. An overly simple or incomplete diagnosis may not fully describe the condition being treated, and thus limit reimbursement potential.

A Corollary is defined as a proposition that follows directly from the proof of another proposition; an immediate consequence or easily drawn conclusion; a deduction; a natural consequence or result.

The HJ Ross Corollaries serve as an aid to differentiate possible diagnoses based on spinal region, specific complaint(s), and finding(s) including orthopedic tests, x-rays, neurologic findings and more. ICD9 and ICD10 coding are both included for ease in coding transition.

Expert Tip: While a simple diagnosis of pain may be appropriate, it likely will result in short term and simple care at best. It may be more appropriate and beneficial to diagnose the causation or underlying reason for the pain. A more focused and specific diagnosis will be much more beneficial to establish treatment protocol while limiting requests for additional information that justify care.
